  BODY IMAGE

An aspiring model I was recruiting for agency represented Voyance Agency asked me, “Why do you want my body measurements?” From film directors and advertising agencies to event services all have wardrobe or uniform requirements provided or supplied by talent to promote their products and/or services. Fashion jobs, runway fashion, print models, commercial models, editorial models, feet models brand models, leg models all have specific wardrobe and shoe sizes that may be the property of the clients, wine and spirits wardrobe for brand awareness, wine promotions or fashion shows.

All types of businesses contact Voyance Talent Agency: manufacturers, wholesalers, retail, suppliers and professional service businesses to promote, make memorable and sell their brand product and/or service. Talent are actors in this role of business branding and will need to have the necessary wardrobe requirements or the client’s attire in the filming, event or photography. The client needs a certain size or will custom their attire as each talent is unique. Of course the actors at work and aspiring models want to look great and tell the story. The brand models, print models and actors at work on set must be careful with the client’s attire, covering up their face with a scarf to protect and keep makeup off the clothes. It is not about the body image or size as it is the natural model or actor that makes the garment, product or service desirable.

Control

Problems occur in life trying to control areas where we have very little control, especially significant with this season of loneliness, winter, darkness and reminiscing the end of year 2020 and into this tremulous 2021.

Jan 26, 2010 Psychology Today Peter Gray, Phd

"Intrinsic goals are those that have to do with one's own development as a person—such as becoming competent in endeavors of one's choosing and developing a meaningful philosophy of life. Extrinsic goals, on the other hand, are those that have to do with material rewards and other people's judgments. They include goals of high income, status, and good looks. We have much less personal control over achievement of extrinsic goals than intrinsic goals. I can though personal effort, quite definitely improve my competence, but that doesn’t guarantee that I’ll get rich. I can, through spiritual practices or philosophical delving, find my own sense of meaning in life, but that doesn’t guarantee that people will find me more attractive or lavish praise on me To the extent that my emotional sense of satisfaction comes from progress toward intrinsic goals I can control my emotional well-being. To the extent that my satisfaction comes from others’ judgements and rewards, I have much less control over my emotional state.” Posted Jun 25, 2019 Brittany Thompson and Dr. Thalia R. Goldstein. This time of year, the end of 2020 a year of discontent on almost all levels by almost everyone finds longing for the past and anticipation of the future. Going from “Christmas makes me Cry” a song by Adam Weiner telling his loneliness and reminiscing of the past to anger in 2021 find a way to improve your acting skills by harnessing every emotion.

“Adam Weiner sings and plays piano like an old school rock and roller in the band Low Cut Connie. Like so many musicians this year, Weiner saw all his gigs go up in smoke.

The first week of pandemic-related lockdowns, Weiner was depressed. Wondering what was going to happen next, he felt like he needed to make himself useful — and with that, essentially reimagined his job. It began with a single livestreamed performance, which turned into a twice-weekly variety show from his apartment. People tuned in to watch Weiner perform with his guitarist, and he started to realize he was providing a real service.”’

THE COVER

For actors at work and fashion models this feeling of loneliness, sadness giving into anger is essential to tap into when needed on the set for believable acting and film directors love just making one take.  When a feeling of wanting to cry, dark, soulful comes in, consciously feel it and let it flow throughout our body.  Anger has it’s place in the human experience and can be a motivator. Have a sense of knowing these feelings are great resource. In the moment of grief, sadness, morose leading to anger an actor may want to cover these. Sadness and morose could be turned to be used as tears of joy in that Hallmark Channel Hall of Fame film or advertisement by Aaron Clement.  Anger leads to motivation to change. Everything has multiple layers of feelings of expression, sadness, anger, gladness all mixed into one that is particularly present during the winter solstice, the winter season and tense times of today. Cover any experience whether trauma related or daily frustrations leads to only temporary protection of avoiding the unpleasant. Like a coat, hat and gloves, these outer garments are a temporary fix. The garments wear out, go out of style, get too big, get too tight and eventually become destined to the garbage dump. The coat, hat and gloves do not stop the storm. Allegorical the storm does not go away and without another solution acknowledging, the wearer will come out worse.

Film art director Jim Button at Wide Awake Films and advertising agency executive producer Ian Davidson with VLM and Rick Fraisier Regional VP with Agave Loco all tell a story and want people to buy tickets, business branding products or services.  All are related to the human emotional experience to satisfy, solve a desire, want or need.  It’s natural.

Plastic Surgery

Voyance Talent Agency Director, I have seen thousands of talent and models.  I can spot plastic surgery and unless it is minimally will concern me something deeper emotionally needs attention.  As humans we all experience fear and anxiety.  Some may have more life experiences that require emotional help, not plastic surgery.  I am a yoga teacher and personal trainer.  Yoga teaches that deep within us, we are whole and healed, no matter what is going on in our lives.  Willingness to grapple affects us on every level:  physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually and plays out on an energetic level.

American Society of Plastic Surgery 2017 annual plastic surgery procedural statistics 17.5 million 2% increase over 2016.  18-35yrs had 44 % spikes in cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic surgery is about trending, breasts are going down, facelifts are a thing of the past.

Dr Kuppersmith Professor emerita of psychology and women’s studies at City University of NY says, “Body changing has an ancient history, …we alter to go back to something primitive and known.  Some of us go to irrational and primitive extremes to feel the rush of early body ego developmental promise.

What is normative discontent? Fear or inadequacy left from childhood anxieties laid down in the brain.”

This business branding is competitive and so is life.  Business branding eventually changes. Some business are steeped in history, are classics relying on reputation of excellence.

UNCOVER to Reflect

One of Voyance Talent Agency’s job is to uncover the exact requirements of the creative job, negotiate the job and communicate with the actor and/or model exact requirements of the creative job. I learned from experience to be sure to be a fashion model of swimwear following a specific set of guidelines and pricing.

Imagine fashion model catalog shoot swimming in the Mediterranean Sea, lying on the beach at Saint-Tropez, France and cruising in a yacht as one of many creative jobs in my model life!  I worked with other high fashion models on a swimsuit fashion-modeling job in south of France for an editorial fashion shoot.  I became friends with another model since we were agency represented fashion models together represented by the same agency.  She told me her story of modeling swimsuits.  My models booking job was set up prior thru my agent negotiating on my behalf to model swimwear only.   Because I did not go topless, some other models on the called me a prude, Quaker, stupid American.  My model friend and I were the only ones in this fashion model shoot to model the swimsuits without the suggestion of topless.  The photographer kept asking my model friend to take off her top since women going topless were normal at that time.   (Now, about 40 % of the French women go topless.) She fiddle around with the top as much as she could for the shot, then finally stopped, took the photographer aside and said, “I can’t go topless!  I have another set of breasts under my normal breasts!”

I suggested before her next model audition to communicate with her agent exact requirements. Voyance Talent Agency partners and advises Talent to excel their careers.

This model was one of Paris’s best high fashion models and by partial cover of her body flaws made a ton of money.

We were both couture swimsuit high fashion models in Paris. My friend who had an extra set of tiny breasts under her normal set of breasts, also had extra TWO sets of teeth behind her normal set.  She only corrected with orthodontist the front row where she was required to smile for photography.  I was baffled that she made a fantastic living around the world of high fashion.  I asked why she didn’t have the other TWO sets of teeth removed.

She responded, “It wouldn’t be natural for me.”

COVER, A TEMPORARY FIX

Adorning our bodies with some kind of jewelry has an ancient history as well.  Hand models make a lot of money doing catalogs for the best jewelers.  My hand model friends had the most beautiful hands; long slender fingers and more often required acrylic nails.  I called these hand model hands, “piano hands”.  A lot of my hand model friends were pianists!  Some leg models and hand models made so much money, they told me they insured their hands, more insured their legs thru Lloyd’s of London.

Being a hand model today has a natural look with clear polish and no acrylic nails.  I would recommend for new hand models, acrylic nails are good to have for a few months to learn to work without breaking nails so the hand model nails will be just slightly longer. This particular catalog used the model face, ears, hair and neck, all-important features.
